ROEST
Sources: ROEST (website)
ROEST is a Norwegian manufacturer of electric convection coffee roasters, founded approximately 2014 by CEO Trond Simonsen. The company produces sample roasters for green coffee evaluation and profile development, and the P3000 production roaster for micro-roasteries and cafés. All machines use convection (air) heating — no gas flame or drum conduction. ROEST won SCA Best New Product 2025 at SCA Expo Houston for the P3000. (source: ROEST (website))

New Generation Sample Roasters (Nov 2025)
Three models on a rebuilt platform. All support up to 200 g, touchscreen interface, OTA firmware updates, and Wi-Fi 5 GHz.
| Model | Sensors / Features | Output |
|---|---|---|
| S200 (entry) | Bean, Air, Inlet temp; no First Crack Detection | — |
| L200 Plus (standard) | + Exhaust, Drum temp; automated First Crack Detection; between-batch protocol | ~1.5 kg/h |
| L200 Ultra (ultimate) | + Counterflow mode; dual BT sensor; drum pressure sensor | up to 3 kg/h |
Legacy S100 and L100 Plus remain fully supported with parts and documentation but receive no further firmware development.

Key Technologies
Convection Roasting
All ROEST machines roast by circulating electrically heated air through the bean mass. No conductive drum heating, no gas flame. This provides precise control over heat input and minimises bean-surface burning risk under normal use.
Counterflow Mode (L200 Ultra exclusive)
In classic mode, the drum rotates clockwise, lifting beans into the airflow. In Counterflow mode, the drum reverses: paddles drive beans directly into the incoming air, and the bean mass sits over the air inlet. This dramatically improves heat transfer efficiency:
- Ultra-high speed: 100 g to second crack in 90 seconds; up to 15+ batches/hour
- Low-temperature roasting: standard roast times at inlet temperatures below 230°C → eliminates scorching and tipping; 20–30% energy reduction (per Christopher Feran)
- Counterflow dynamics are closer to the P3000 than Classic mode → easier sample-to-production profile transfer
- BT/IT profiles viable from 50 g batches (was ~125 g+ on the L100 Plus)

Drum Pressure Sensor (L200 Ultra)
Precise, reproducible airflow measurement and easier cross-machine calibration — replaces the manual trier-hole pressure-checking method used on older models.
ROEST Connect
Free web platform included with all ROEST machines. Manages inventory, roast profiles, cupping sessions, and batch analytics. Bridges sample and production roasters in a single workflow.
Industry Endorsements
- Tim Wendelboe (World Barista Champion): P3000 “incredibly flexible”; profile replication “without human interference” means “consistency is no longer about dialling in the equipment — it’s all about the quality of the green coffee”
- Scott Rao (The Coffee Roaster’s Companion): “the hands-down best sample roaster”; Counterflow produced roasts “softer, less harsh, and easier to develop”
- Christopher Feran (roasting consultant, Aviary): 20–30% energy reduction; zero scorching/tipping with Counterflow; “just brilliant”
Customer Case Studies
- ROAST Coffee (Copenhagen) — Four cafés; two P3000s matched and exceeded the hourly output of their previous 6 kg gas roaster; cleaner taste, more precise profiling, reduced noise.
- Hibi Kaffe (Oslo) — Solo micro-roastery; P3000 automation allows the founder to handle packing and other tasks while the machine roasts; cleaning much faster than previous gas machine.
- Hakone Coffeeunion (Oslo) — Beginner-friendly; consistent quality from the first batch without extensive operator experience.
- C•SOL (Austria) — Specialty roastery; P3000 rated highly for precision, energy efficiency, and sustainability alignment.

Relevance to Kaiserblick
The P3000 is directly relevant to Kaiserblick’s roasting operation: 1–3 kg batches, up to 25 kg/hour, compact, fully automated, and operable solo. The L200 Ultra as a companion sample roaster enables systematic micro-lot profile development with ROEST Connect bridging the sample–production workflow. Roast Rebels (Germany) is an official ROEST reseller, providing a potential procurement channel.
