Overview
Fjord Coffee Roasters is a Berlin-based specialty roaster founded in 2016 by Kresten Thøgersen, Morgan Love, and James Maguire — three Berlin hospitality venue owners who saw a need for quality, relationship-driven roasted coffee supply. The legal entity is LMT Hospitality GmbH. Their roastery is located at Zur Alten Börse 79, 12681 Berlin (Marzahn district), not open to the public without appointment.
Fjord’s stated mission is to uncover “the rarest and most unique flavours in coffee” while connecting quality consumption with sustainable production and economic sustainability for farmers. They supply cafés, hotels, restaurants, and offices across Europe and serve retail customers via their Shopify store at fjord-coffee.de.
Their Roastery Manager is Michal Sowinski.
🔴 El Salvador — Warm Lead
Fjord’s own FAQ states:
“We currently have direct trade relationships with producers in Brazil, El Salvador and Colombia.”
Despite this, no El Salvador coffees appear in their current product range. The gap is clearly visible: their catalogue covers Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya, and Peru — but no Central American country other than Guatemala.
This makes Fjord a warm lead: they already know El Salvador coffee from direct-trade experience, but their current sourcing is elsewhere. The unknown is who their existing or former ES partner is. This could be a direct competitor (e.g. Baraona, SICAFESA). Verify the ES supplier before outreach to avoid an awkward conversation.
The gap also presents a genuine conversation opener: Kaiserblick can approach Fjord as a complementary ES producer rather than a cold pitch.

Sourcing Philosophy
Fjord positions around exploration and discovery — “rarest and most exotic” coffees. They emphasise direct-trade relationships and close collaboration with producers, framing the model as improving both “the coffee drinking culture in the cities we operate in” and “the economic sustainability for farmers.”
Known sourcing partners and importers:
- Cultivar Coffees (Cultivar Peru) — importer for Peru lots; collaborated on Peruvian Geisha (2022 WoC Milan, 2023 German Brewers Cup)
- Nordic Approach — collaborated on Uganda Nyakshenyi lot
No EU organic (BIO) certification requirement is mentioned anywhere on the site. No ACE (Alliance for Coffee Excellence) or Cup of Excellence membership is evident.
Roasting Approach
Fjord uses a 12kg cast iron Probat roaster with variable frequency drives controlling airflow, drum speed, and gas burner. Their approach combines conduction and convection heating and is documented in detail on their website:
- Filter roasts: 6–8 minutes total; Lighttells colorimeter target 105–115; TDS 1.2–1.5 at 12 min cupping
- Espresso roasts: 9–11 minutes total; colorimeter target 95–105; development time 1:00–1:30 after first crack
Goal: clean, transparent cup that reveals processing, varietal, and origin without imposing a heavy roast signature.
