GrainPro® is a world-leading innovator in hermetic post-harvest solutions for storing, drying, and transporting dry agricultural commodities, founded in 1992. Headquartered in Washington DC, USA. Their technology protects commodities from moisture, insects, mold, and odors without chemical fumigation by creating a modified atmosphere inside an airtight seal. GrainPro bags are the de facto export standard for specialty green coffee from Latin America (including El Salvador) to European and North American roasters.
Products
Hermetic Bags
The core product — an airtight multilayer polyethylene bag used as an inner liner inside a standard burlap/jute sack.
| Size | Capacity | Primary use |
|---|---|---|
| Small | ~15 kg | Specifically designed for coffee; micro-lot transport |
| Medium | 25–30 kg | Farm-gate storage; small lots |
| Large | ~69 kg | Standard coffee export bag (matches 150 lb / 69 kg burlap sack) |
GrainPro Hermetic Bag Premium™: 500× more airtight than regular plastic. Standard inner liner for jute bags in the specialty coffee export chain. In El Salvador and across Central America, the export standard is: GrainPro Hermetic Bag Premium™ inside a 69 kg burlap sack.
GrainPro Hermetic Bag Farm: Low-cost variant for smallholder farmers; simpler construction; shorter storage life.
GrainPro Hermetic Pouch: 2,500g sample bag; resealable; for green or roasted coffee samples.
Cocoon Storage Systems
Large-scale hermetic grain storage for bulk commodities:
| Product | Capacity | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Cocoon™ | 5+ metric tons | Outdoor or indoor bulk storage; flood-protected, UV-resistant |
| Cocoon Indoor™ | Customizable | Indoor-only; lightweight; CO₂ inlet available |
| Mini Cocoon™ | Smallholder scale | Farmers without warehouse access |
| Cocoon Cargo | Container use | Eliminates insect infestation risk during sea freight |
Transport and Drying
FIBC Hermetic Pouch: Outer liner for big bags (1,000 kg FIBC bulk containers); lightweight hermetic PE with barrier layer.
GrainPro Solar Dryer: Multi-commodity dryer; transparent UV-resistant polyethylene top + reinforced black PVC floor; ventilators to exhaust moisture; rake mixer included; works on any terrain.
El Salvador and Latin America
GrainPro is well-established in Latin American coffee supply chains. A testimonial from an Olam Honduras manager confirms: “we have been exporting our premium quality coffees in GrainPro bags for many years, guaranteeing quality preservation during the long transit.” A French roaster testimonial: “I believe GrainPro has added several months of shelf life to green coffees, especially from Central America.”
The task file for this research referenced Luis Ricardo Quiros (luis@grainpro.com) as the GrainPro contact covering El Salvador — confirm this contact before placing orders.
GrainPro announced a partnership with Neumann Gruppe USA — this links GrainPro directly to NEUMANN KAFFEE, one of the world’s largest green coffee merchants, which already appears in Penagos’s client list.
Relevance to Kaiserblick
GrainPro bags are already the standard format for Kaiserblick’s export chain. Odyssey Coffees (direct structural peer, see Odyssey Coffees) exports using GrainPro inside 69 kg burlap sacks — 275 bags per 20-ft container (~19,000 kg). This is the format Kaiserblick should replicate for its European shipments.
Procurement path: GrainPro is available through green coffee importer relationships and specialty supply chains in El Salvador. Contact: luis@grainpro.com (ES/Latin America contact per task brief).
Storage science: See Green Coffee Storage for full analysis of hermetic packaging vs. alternatives (vacuum, burlap, freezing) and the importance of measuring moisture content and water activity before sealing.
